Letter to Birth Mother

Dear Birthmother,

We realize you are going through a trying time right now and understand there are many thoughts going through your mind.  The choice to place your baby for adoption is probably the most selfless decision you have ever made.  You have put your precious baby first!  We realize this decision was made with much thought.  This decision is not only going to affect your life, but the life of your baby, and the couple you choose to parent your child. Please remember, you are not alone in this journey. 

Today my husband and I are taking the same journey my parents took when they started the adoption process for me, and what a wonderful journey it is.  I remember talking to my mom about the process she and my father went through when they adopted me and my older brother.  It was the most exciting time of their life.  They would jump every time the phone rang.  She will never forget the day when the phone rang, and on the other end, they were asked “would they like to see their new daughter”.  As they drove to the hospital they cried all the way there.  The tears were not only tears of happiness for their new daughter, but also for the wonderful birthmother who chose to give her child life.  

We have been together for six years and married for two years.  Having a family is something we wanted from day one. We met doing what we both enjoy, which is working out at the gym.  The first thing I noticed was his wonderful smile. As we got to know each other, I saw another side of him that I knew I wanted in my life.  His love for children is just amazing; the children in our neighborhood gravitate to him.  We have two dogs, one is a Labadoodle and the other is a Cockapoo, and they love to join us when we are out playing ball with the kids. We have a big fenced in backyard and we already know where the swing set will be. 

We love to travel and have been lucky to travel the world, and look forward to sharing these amazing places with our child.  We love football, Tomek likes NFL and I love college football.  I really don’t think there is a sport we don’t enjoy.  We hike, camp, bike, and play tennis (my husband teaches tennis).  We both golf, and love taking long walks with our dogs.  We enjoy going to the theater, reading, history, cooking, and most importantly, we enjoy spending time with family and friends.  Our Church is also very important to us; we are both Catholic.

My husband is from Poland and his parents still live there.  His parents visit often and are looking forward to seeing their new grandchild.  Tomek has two brothers, one lives in Alaska with his wife and new daughter, and his other brother lives in Florida with his wife and two sons. We are all very close, and they are very excited for us and can’t wait to meet the new addition to the family. 

Tomek is a physical therapist, and I just finished nursing school.  Going to nursing school was something I always wanted to do.  I plan on working a couple days a week after our baby is older.  One of us will always be home for our child. Education is very important to us and will be an important part of our child’s life.  My husband speaks many languages (Polish, Russian, Spanish, Italian, French, and German) and he looks forward to teaching Polish to our children and introducing other languages into their life. 

We want to thank you for reading our story, and hope we will have the opportunity to learn about you and share more of our life with you.  We think you are an amazing woman for giving your baby the most important thing, life, and a family that will love them with all their hearts.
